Oil Painting
The technique of oil painting dates back to the 7th Century CE Afghanistan but gain popularity in the 15th Century by Belgian painter Jan Van Eyck. It’s a technique of making two-dimensional art pieces by using drying oils as a base and mixing it with bright pigments. Oil paintings are created with layers of paint that gives them a unique texture and impression.
It’s a versatile and popular art form used by many historic artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Johannes Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci etc.

Charcoal Art
Charcoal painting uses a dry medium such as charcoal bound as charred sticks or crayons or pencils (compressed charcoal). It could be used with a combination of white chalk or neutral color papers. The bound charcoal “sticks” or crayons are used in the art for their versatile properties such as their rough texture that produces varying visual effects as it could leave both light as well as dark marks. Fixatives are often used to reduce the chances of the color getting erased.
Its history could be dated back to about 28,000 years when charcoal was used as a medium for cave paintings. Artists such as Kathe Kollwitz, Frank Auerbach, and Dennis Creffield are popular in the field of charcoal art.

Soft Pastel
Soft pastels are different from oil pastels in a way that the binder of the powdered pigments could either be resin, gum or clay and not non-drying oils. They are as popular as oil pastels because of their ease of use and ease to blend.
People believe that it originated in Northern Italy during the 16th century. It was a popular medium of art among legendary artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

Pencil Sketching
Pencil Sketching is about creating realistic, high defination of details using graphite pencils. The use of graphite pencils as a medium of art is relatively new even though sketching using chalks, charcoal etc was prevalent before.
The use of graphite pencils for sketching started only during the 17th Century and it gradually gained popularity by the 18th Century and was widely used by painters and designers.

Water Color Painting
Watercolors are one of the most versatile mediums of painting as you can apply it in a substantial variety of mediums including paper, wood, stone, fabrics, canvas etc. The watercolor painting technique is as old age the stone age era. Its origins could be traced back to the paintings of animals and humans in the caves painted by the early Paleolithic men.
The Watercolor, as the name suggests uses pigments that are suspended in a water-based solution or transparent medium. The usual way of painting using watercolors includes using dark pigments mixed with lead white.

Oil Pastel
Oil pastels are color sticks that consist of pigment mixed and bonded with non-drying oils and wax. It differs from other pastel sticks and crayons in terms of composition. Oil pastels have bold and bright colors that blend in easily and can create vibrant pieces of art. It is advantageous in a way that young children can easily use them to create simple and artistic pieces.
Oil pastels were first created in Japan in around the year 1925 by a company called Sakura and were widely known as Cray-Pas. They became popular due to their accessibility and easy-to-use property.
Some famous artists who used oil pastels as a medium for their art are Mary Cassat, Jean-Francois Millet, Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas and more.

Ink Drawing
The origin of Ink as a medium of sophistication art form could be traced back to 7th and 8th century China. Before this, ink has used as a medium for printing purposes and handwritten copies of manuscripts. Ink as an art form was used to depict a range of subjects such as the daily lives of people, their history or religion.
The brushes were mainly made from animal hair or feathers and paper or silk sheets were used to paint before the advent of modern-day paper and pen ink drawings.

Color Shading
Color shading is the art of blending lighter and darker colors. The shades are darker than the original hues because of the mixing of the color black in it and it could be made lighter by adding white to the hue. Knowing the art of color shading can enhance your art by making it look more professional and aesthetic.
